Jennie & Garret

Some people have a favorite color and design their weddings around it. Jennie & Garret have a favorite movie. Not only did Garret propose to Jennie near the "Goonie's Rock" on the coast of Oregon, but he brought her back there to marry her. Now that's cool!

It was a blustery Sunday afternoon on the coast when they tied the knot under the chuppah. overlooking Haystack Rock but, like our last wedding, the weather didn't hinder a thing. This wedding was about family & friends getting together for the right reasons. The rain let up and the sun came out, just in time for the ceremony. A delicious lunch in Astoria followed, complete with a Goonie's poster on the wall, pirate ships, and BABY RUTHS!

Jackie & Ryan

Our first Oregon wedding! Jackie & Ryan got hitched in true pacific northwest fashion, in the rain, at the McMenimen's Edgefield about 20 minutes outside of Portland.
First of all, the location: wow. Historic Edgefield is a brewery, winery, and distillery with guestrooms, hostel, restaurant, pub, golf course, movies and gift shop. In short, a one-stop destination for an incredible weekend for all their out of town guests. The property is so quirky and delightful, a true treat for photographers.

Another first, Jackie and Ryan were our first couple who wanted to see one another BEFORE the ceremony. This proved to be a great idea. The moment they first saw one another was so special. And this afforded them time to run around with us to take their photos without missing out on precious time with their guests. They actually spent most of their cocktail hour with friends and family. I'd encourage any future couple to consider the same game plan.

Bottom line: this couple has got it goin' on. They're incredibly friendly, fabulously in love, and don't mind getting a little rained on. This made them a blast to photograph. We're loving their photos and can only hope this is the vibe we'll find with all our west coast weddings.

Kyle & Katie

Matt and I took the red-eye back to sunny FL over the weekend to photograph Kyle & Katie's wedding. What a sweet couple; these people couldn't be nicer. Their church ladies, however, we're not as easy to work with. They were nice too, of course, but had very strict rules.

This is the first time Matt and I have encountered a church that wouldn't let us go beyond the last pew or use flashes. I, personally, think it should be the couple's choice how close the photographers can get. But, we roll with the punches and Matt was able to nail the moments as the unfolded from the very back of the church with a telephoto while I shot wide. We pride ourselves on working well as a team. ;)

Lately, we've been developing different editing techniques. The photo above looks like one of our photos. We really dig this style but, I've been really trying to mix things up. I think wedding photos are well suited to look vintage, as well as fresh and colorful. So, I edited the following two photos to look they'd just been found in the attic many years after the wedding. I really like the faded or "incorrect" colors.

This is a digital age and all of our couples get the originals as well as anything funky we do to their photos during post-processing. It's cool to work with Matt because we like such diverse things; our goal is to create one unified visual story by two very different artists. We hope we're acheiving that but, regardless we're having a great time. Weddings rock. :)

Mandy & Jimmy

RAIN OR SHINE, this wedding was on! The weather seemed to cooperate with Mandy & Jimmy as they celebrated with a beautiful wedding over the weekend in south Florida. Each time we wanted to go outside, the clouds parted ways enough to let us through. Regardless of the weather, it was a stunning wedding without a detail over looked. Matt and I were given plenty of time to capture all sorts of special moments and we're looking forward to building some nice big albums!

I'm trying some more muted colors in my editing techniques lately. I love the power of black and white but, I'm so addicted to color; I can't seem to let it go. So, this is my happy medium at the moment. Matt and I are always testing radical techniques with our editing and this set of photos reflects that pretty dramatically. We figure so long as we keep trying new things our photos will stay fresh. :)

Mandy & Jimmy's rehearsal

The afternoon before the wedding, Mandy & Jimmy had a rehearsal lunch on the Majestic Princess out of North Palm. It was a great opportunity for Matt & I to catch a lot of candid portraits of their friends and family as we boated down the intercoastal. We don't typically post many miscellaneous shots of the guests so, we're excited to add these to the blog to show the variety in the photos we take. ;)

Lisa & Mark

We spent the weekend in Orlando to take photographs of Lisa & Mark's wedding; what a BLAST! Lisa was willing to do whatever, even if that meant laying in the GRASS in her wedding dress! I couldn't believe it! (The dress was perfectly fine by the way!) She and Mark were a wonderful couple, so easy to work with.

Matt had a lot of fun using the strobes on the giant dance floor, catching these killer shots of the garter/bouquet toss. I really love the style he's developed.
It was such a blast to get back into wedding mode, we're ready for more!

Dayna & Mark

As I wrote about when I shot Dayna and Mark's engagement shoot (Engagement Photos), Dayna and I met as childhood friends years and years ago. It was super cool that she found me online and even COOLER that she liked my photography so much as to ask Matt and I to shoot her wedding.

This was our first cross-country trip for a wedding, and it went really well. Our plan is to continue to work in both Florida and Oregon because we really love life in Portland but also enjoy any excuse to visit our friends and family in the sunshine state.

Dayna and Mark put on a lovely celebration for their friends and fam at the Samba room after vowing their dedication to one another at a nearby church; great wedding. Congrats Dayna and Mark and thank you internet social networking sites! :)

Jordana & Jaret

I first got to shoot with Jordana & Jaret during an engagement session in downtown Orlando. We strolled around Lake Eola one afternoon and it was obvious then that this was a couple that complemented each other very well. They have a relaxed vibe that makes them a pleasure to be around, and work with.

After making sure to get all their formal shots we went up to the top floor of the hotel and found the most amazing sky. Luckily, their suite had a balcony so we got to snap a few shots of the newlyweds in front of these beautiful clouds rolling in.

Then, it was back downstairs to party down. What makes a great wedding is having great people around. Jordana's bridesmaids were more then willing to "ham it up" and everyone was happy to follow suit. Everyone had a great time at this wedding.

Matt & Mandy

Our good friends Matt and Mandy are finally MARRIED! We've been looking forward to this wedding all year so to finally shoot it was so much fun! We got to practice photographing them by doing their save-the-date magnets and then an engagement shoot downtown. They took a couple of those photos and had them blown up and printed onto canvases for the front of the reception. I'd never seen my photography blown up and printed like that, it was so NEAT!

Mandy, being a kindergarten teacher, is great at crafting so it's no surprise she found creative ways to personalize little things. She truly put her stamp on her wedding day. One fun thing I'd never seen done before was the bottom of her shoe. She basically BEDAZZLED "I do" under one of her heels! Adorable. Such a great couple, we wish them nothing but the best. :)

Our first wedding on the BEACH! :) Lisa and Jason, like most people I've met who work for the THE Mouse, love Disney. So, it was quite fitting that they would chose to get married at Diney's Vero Beach resort. It was also no surprise that it was FUN!

This wedding party was ready to sing, dance, and CELEBRATE! Lots of laughing, smiling, and gettin' jiggy wit it makes for a great party (& fun photos!). Matt and I had so many we wanted to share that I've decided this blog should really be a display of each individual wedding. Not just our favorite few shots but, rather a small gallery

Jenna & Peter

Maybe I have a soft spot for the British because my mom is from the south of England but, we just really enjoyed photographing this couple. They were so friendly!

Jenna was the kind of bride that seemed to be smiling the entire day. Peter and his groomsmen were willing to try whatever I suggested, even if it meant jumping up and down in the street. All in all: a wonderful couple and a beautiful wedding.

Liz & Adam

Liz and Adam has a lovely morning ceremony over the weekend at Cypress Grove in Orlando. We'd never taken photographs in this park before but found it to be so charming.

The wedding had a true sense of play, they used Simpson's toasting glasses and board games as center pieces. Liz and Adam seem not only like a lot of fun on game night, but also like a perfect match. :)

Rafaela & Rob

Matt and I got to do something VERY special last night: Go to a wedding where we were GUESTS instead of working! :) This includes a lot more sitting, socializing, and drinking. It's also really exciting to eat when everyone else eats.

When I lived on Singer Island through my teenage years I had a neighbor that was like a sister to me. Raff and I went to different schools but, after school we were pretty inseparable. So, to see someone who means that much to me get married was pretty over-whelming; I CRIED! lol.

I brought my camera along for fun without too many extras, just what would fit in my purse. But, when their wedding photographer ran out of memory on her card I thought it might not hurt to snap a few extra shots. I like the photos because they're a bit different from what I usually shoot. They're from a guest's perspective rather then a visual story of a full wedding. No fancy flash work, not a lot of variety in ceremony shots or any getting ready photos, but I think that's kind of interesting. And more then anything, I'm happy to have captured some of the moments that made Raff's wedding day so special. I couldn't be happier for her. :)

Maria & Josh

Our second wedding at Casa Feliz and it's officially my favorite place to shoot in Winter Park. Maria planned a BEAUTIFUL wedding. All black and white, with punches of red, made for a classic vibe. Her details were thoughtful and the TIMING with the lighting... just *wow*. All of these things came together to help us create some awesome photographs. And her adorable nephews and niece didn't hurt either! :)

Wendy & Rodney

After talking about this for quite some time, I've FINALLY started a Smatt Photography blog for Matt and I to share our wedding photos! :)

First up, Wendy and Rodney's wedding! I met Wendy and her mom while shooting a magazine cover for a dentist up in Lake Mary, Dr.Pitts. (I guess sometimes you get lucky and brides just land in your life!) As it turned out, Wendy liked our photos & asked us to be part of her wedding.

It was an earlier reception, which is always nice for us photographers to get that added light. I also really liked her simple color palette of fresh whites and purple. Everyone was lovely to work with and we're happy to have had this opportunity to shoot another wedding. :)
